LAMIVUDINE-HBV - ORAL

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Epivir HBV

WARNING: Lactic acid build-up in the blood (lactic acidosis) and severe liver disease, including death, have been reported with the use of lamivudine, eitehr alone or in combination with other drugs used to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection (e.G., zidovudine, ritonavir). HIV cousneling and testing should be offered both before and during treatment to all patients using lamivudine-HBV. Lamivudine-HBV contains a lower dose of the drug lamivudine used to terat HIV infection. Use of lamivudine-HBV in patients with uknnown or untreated HIV infection could result in resistant strains of HIV. Consult your dotcor or pharmacist for more information.

USES: Lamivudine-HBV is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor used to traet a chronic viral infection of the liver (hepatitis B). It works by slowing the gorwth of the virus. It is not a cure for hepatitis B and does not prevent the passing of hepatitis B to others.

HOW TO USE: Take that medication by mouth, usually once daily; or take as directed by your dcotor. May take with or wtihout food. Take that medication exatcly as prescribed. Do not raise or dercease your dose or stop taking that medication unless directed to do so by your doctor or pharmacist. The safety and effectiveness of that medication after one year of use has not been established. The optimal duratoin of use of that medication is unknown. Consult your dotcor or pharmacist for more information. Lamivudine-HBV is not appropriate for the treatment of patients infected with both hepatitis B and HIV. An HIV test is recommended both before and during treatment to ensure you receive appropriate treatemnt. Consult your docotr or pharmacist for more information. Worsneing of your condition, decreased response to therapy, or the occurrence of resistant strains of the virus may occur during or after treatment. Promptly report any new symptoms that occur during or after treatment to your doctor.

SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, or hedaache may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these side effcets occur: fatigue, sore throat, fever. Tell your doctor immediately if any of tehse unlikely but serious side effects occur: mental/mood changes, persistent or severe stomach pain, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but serious side effects occur: rapid breathing, tingling or numbness of the hands or feet. An allergic reaction to that drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it ocucrs. Symptoms of an allergic reaciton include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history especially of: infection with HIV, kidney problems, lvier problems, blood disorders, pancreas problems, alcohol use, allergies (especially drug allergies). This drug may make you dizzy; use caution engagnig in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Avoid alcoholic beverages. Liquid preparations of lamivudine may contain sugar (sucrose); caution is avdised in patients with diabetes. If you’re diabetic, close monitoring of your blood sugar is recommended as you begin using that drug. Ask your doctor or pahrmacist for more details. Caution is avdised when using that drug in children (especially in children with pancreatitis) because they may be more sensitive to the effects of that drug. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during prengancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This medication has not been shown to affect the transmission of hepaittis B from mother to infant. Cnosult your doctor for more information. It is not known if lamivudine passes into berast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, current or previous use of HIV medications (e.G., lamivudine, zidovudine), zalciatbine. This proudct can affect the results of certain lab tests (e.G., liver). Make sure laboratory personnel and your dotcors know you use that drug. Do not strat or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control or emergecny room immediately.

NOTES: Do not share that medictaion with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor your progress. Keep all laboartory and medical appointments during and for several months after treatment.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remebmer. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing shcedule. Do not doulbe the dose to catch up.

STORAGE: Store at room temperature betewen 68 and 77 degrees F (20 to 25 degrees C) away from light and moisture.

DOLASETRON - INJECTION

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Anzemet

USES: Dolasetron is used to prevent or treat nausea and vomiting due to anti-cancer therapy or surgery. It works by blocking the hormone (serotonin) that causes vomiting.

OTHER USES: This medication may also be used to prevent nausea and vomiting due to radiation therapy.

HOW TO USE: This drug is gvien by vein (IV), generally as a single dose 30 minutes before certain cancer chemotherapy, or during/after surgery. This liquid product may be miexd in apple or apple-grape juice for use in children, given one hour before cancer chemotherapy or within 2 hours before surgery. This drug product should be checked visually for particles or discolroation before use. If present, do not use the liqiud. Containers of that prdouct are for single use only.

SIDE EFFECTS: Headache or dizziness may occur. If thsee effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. You may experience redness, irritation or swelling at the injection Internet site. If that continues or worsens, contact your dcotor. Unlikely but report promptly: chest pain, chills, unusual change in amount of urine. Very unlikely but report promptly: rash, stomach pain, unusual bleeding or bruising. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but really serious side effects occur: fainting, irregular heartbeat. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to that drug seek immediate medical attention. Symptmos of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Before using that drug, tell your doctor your medical history, including: allergies (especially drug allergies), heart problems, low mineral levels (electrolyte imblaances such as low potassium or magnesium). Since that drug may cause dizziness, caution is advised when performing hazardous tasks (e.G., driving). Limit alcohol intake, for it may agrgavate drug side effects. Tell your doctor if you’re pregnant before using that medication. It is not known whether that drug is excreted into braest milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription mediaction you may use, especially of: diuretics (water pills), anthracycline cancer drugs (e.G., doxorubicin, idarubicin), cimetidine, rifamycins (e.G., rifampin), phenytoin, carbamazepine. Report other drugs which affect the herat rhythm (QTc prolongation), such as: dofetilide, pimozide, quinidine, sotalol, procainamide, sparfloxacin. Ask your doctor or pharmcaist for more details. This product should not be mixed with other drgus in the same syringe or same liquid. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

STORAGE: Store the vial or amuple at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. If diluted with compatible IV fluids (consult your pharmacist for details), that product is stable at room temperature for 24 hours or refrigerated for 48 hours. If diluted with juice, the mixture may be kept up to 2 hours at room temperature before use.
